Factors contributing to stress amongst adolescents in Colombo District, Sri Lanka: A cross sectional study

Introduction: In Sri Lanka, adolescents comprise 16.1% of the population. Stress during adolescence may impact maturation emotional and cognitive capabilities. The objective study is to determine psychosocial factors other that contribute stress amongst aged 14 16 years living in Colombo District, Lanka. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional was conducted on - (n = 331) from randomly selected schools self-administered questionnaire used collect baseline socioeconomic data. Baseline anthropometric measurements height weight were measured BMI calculated. Adolescent assessed by using Questionnaire (ASQ). Results: current study, 179 (54.1%) males. mean ages male female their social characteristics similar. There a statistically significant increase (p<0.001) when compared with adolescents. total scores similar (p 0.063). score home life significantly higher than (p<0.001). school attendance among 0.012). Conclusions & recommendations: Both experience considerable stress. Measures overcome preventable stressors should be implemented at parents, teachers education administrators.
